Every Simple Single Thing
NaPoWriMo April 26: “Today, we challenge you to write your own ars poetica, giving the reader some insight into what keeps you writing poetry, or what you think poetry should do.”
My dear fellow NaPoWriMoers, These last few days of April with my dear guests, I hope you’ll forgive me for more revision and fewer comments. But I’m still here!
Every Simple Single Thing
by Elizabeth Boquet
“Are you a goddess?”
bee asks cherry tree — and she
bursts into blossom.
“So, Mom. What do you think of my haiku?”
I ask into the air from your wicker chair
and stare until a bee bites the back of my knee
to remind me that you are now an absentee
but our poetry remains in full bloom,
thanks to you, along with that other bee,
that day, under the cherry tree where you
taught me how to write haiku by choosing
to love every simple single thing — even the sting.
